Balancing My HVAC System

A few months ago, I realized that something was wrong with my HVAC system. It seemed like no matter what I did, some rooms were hot and some rooms were simply getting too much cooled air. Instead of trying to troubleshoot my air conditioner on my own, I called out a professional HVAC repairman for help. They went through each room of my house when the system was running to measure the outgoing airflow and to check for issues. They discovered some serious balance problems, which they resolved after running a few extra lines. Check out this blog to learn more about HVAC in general.

Small Signs You Need Your Air Conditioner Repaired

Just because your air conditioner seems to be working, it may not always be working to its best ability. While you may not be too concerned about this, and figure there is no reason to call an air conditioning repair company, you may want to think again. If the system has even a small problem, you could be spending too much money on your cooling bill. In addition, if you let a small problem go, you could end up with a much bigger problem. Here are some things to pay attention to so you know to contact a repair person as soon as possible and save some money.

Sounds

Other than hearing a bit of a woosh as the system cycles on, and of course hearing the fan and air blowing into the rooms, you really shouldn't hear anything else. If you hear banging or rattling, there is something wrong. It could be something simple that is fixed quickly and inexpensively such as a nut or screw that has fallen into the unit and is rolling around. Regardless, any unusual sound should be checked out by a professional.

Warm Air Pockets

The HVAC system in your house was designed so that cool air would be blown everywhere, without any areas left out. When you notice there are pockets of warm air, you should get it checked out. If left alone, you may find that these pockets grow in size. Get it fixed before you have whole rooms that are not being properly cooled.

High Bills

If your cooling bill is larger than you think it should be, there could be a problem with your system. When the unit has to run more frequently, the bill goes up. Unless the temperatures outside have gone much higher than normal, your bill should not go up too much. The increase should be gradual throughout the summer the way the temperature rises.

You count on your air conditioning system to keep all of your home at a comfortable temperature when the air outside heats up. If you don't take care of it, and make sure to have it repaired when there is something wrong, you could end up getting very hot inside. Don't wait for the system to quit working or be blowing hot air into the house. At the first sign of a problem, call for professional air conditioning repair. You will save money, and keep everyone from getting hot under the collar.
